you can just call me Busy Bee
You have probably heard this so many times before, but this summer has been extremely busy for me. I’ll just give you a quick recap.
Home Owners: On May 24th, our two year search for the perfect affordable home in the Washington, DC was finally over. My boyfriend and I became home owners to a vintage brick 1950s duplex. Immediately, I was in love with it. We were so lucky because instead of a fixer upper, our home’s kitchen and bathroom was updated just the way we wanted. However, we still needed to paint, build a closet, buy furnisher, plant me a mini farm, and the list is never ending so I will spare you. But as you can see, my mind that normally is busy thinking about running and knitting, became occupied with thoughts about the house.

Yep that is my beautiful Kitchen!

Cool sink in the bathroom!

New Closet!

Paint color, New rug, TV mounted on the wall.
Travel: And then we traveled. Literally, five days after we moved into the house, we left to the Wild Wild West for a total of 10 days.
- Boise, Idaho- for 3 days.
- Shoshone Waterfalls
- Idaho Falls
- Yellowstone National Park-went to parts in Montana and then Wyoming. Spent two days there and a night.
- Teton Mountains
- Jackson Hole Wyoming
- Oregon- for burgers at my bf’s Uncle’s burger joint called, Burger West! Next time you are in Oregon you have to check it out.
- Craters of the Moon

More Travel: For the month of July, my Grammy, went from being healthy to having surgery. Unfortunately, she had complications during surgery, and was just not able to recover. Some days were good, others were bad, but after three weeks of being in ICU, she passed on the Friday after her 84th birthday.
Even though it was only for a day, I went up to MA. I canceled my clients and left early that Wednesday morning to be with Grammy on her 84th birthday. It was hard to see her in that state, but boy was I thankful I was there with her. Along with many other memories, I will always remember that day- seeing her tears run down her cheek when my mom and I rushed in the hospital room. Making her laugh as we talked about haircuts and color. Putting lipgloss on her lips. Feeling her squeeze my hand. Kissing her cheek and having her kiss mine back.

My Grammy, Dot Flathers.
Work Travel: I got back from MA Thursday morning, and then went straight to work. Then Sunday morning I headed back to the airport to catch a plane to LA for Sebastian Training. Sebastian Training was intense but fabulous. I learned a lot of great techniques and met some amazing other hairstylists. On Wednesday night I took the red eye flight home and landed Thursday morning, and then again went straight to work. I worked Friday and Saturday to make up some days.
More Travel: The following Wednesday, I went back up to MA, for my Grammy’s burial service. It took place of Thursday, Aug 9, 2012. It was a very beautiful service, and was exactly what she wanted. Her closest family was there. We prayed some short sweet prayers, and laughed and cried as we shared stories and memories.

All of us Girls.
I stayed for the rest of Thursday and some of Friday. In that time I was able to go my Grammy’s house. I was also able to hit up North Hampton, and of corse I stopped at a yarn shop. However, in the end, right before our flight was about to take off, the coolest thing happened, we saw a rainbow. You may think this doesn’t mean anything, but the ironic thing is, that when my grandfather, Pepe, died we saw a rainbow as well. A rainbow symbolizes beauty and peace after the storm. I believe this rainbow symbolizes my Grammy.

Grammy, the beauty and peace after the storm. Grammy, in heaven- a beautiful and peaceful place. Grammy, smiling down on us, giving us beauty and peace, letting us know, she’s alright, everything is ok. Closure.
Finally time to Knit: So as you can see I have been super busy and emotional and all that jazz… but I will say that while sitting in the airport I was able to decide on some future knitting projects. Also, this summer I have had the opportunity to visit two different Yarn shops, one in Idaho, and one in MA. I can’t wait to blog about them, and share the yarns I found there.
Fall time: Another thing that I am looking forward to is cooler temps, fall time. Fall is my favorite time of the year. During the Fall time, things slow down. I’m able to find the time to knit and run.
This was a long post, but I will be posting some shorter posts this week. So stay tuned.
