“There is a time of year in New York when even before the first leaf falls you can feel the seasons click. The air is crisp. The summer is gone. And for the first night in a long time you need a blanket on your bed.”

                                                                             ~Carrie Bradshaw

In May, my boyfriend and I became home owners. And although we have done a lot to move in and unpack, we are still getting settled. My focus which was once the inside living room has been put on hold, because we are waiting for our Ethan Allen sectional to arrive.  Hopefully it will come in late September. So for the time being I am now concentrating on my outdoor space.

Most people buy outdoor furniture for the Spring or Summer. But when I think of Spring, bad allergies comes to my mind. And as for the Summers in DC, they are just way to humid, to enjoy a day sitting outside. So Fall time has become by far my favorite season. And in the DC area, it is actually, the most beautiful time of year.

My outdoor space will be an extension of my indoor space.

So this is what I am imagining….

A gray wicker love seat, overflowing with funky patterned cushions and pillows.

A cozy hand knitted blanket draped over the side.

A side table or chest of some sort.

An outdoor rug.

A pot of flowers, or possibly relocate my lemon tree.

A shade for privacy.

A cool piece of hanging stain glass art.

All of these items are at West Elm.

My Outdoor Space Challenge…

My porch is tiny tiny tiny. It will a challenge for me to find furniture small enough. If for some reason I can’t find a small enough wicker love seat, then I might consider a large chair, but my hunt starts tomorrow, so we will have to just see what I can find. It will also be a challenge to have all of the things above with out making the space over crowded. But I love a good challenge! So let the challenge begin.

I just want to wake up and be able to sit outside sipping on my morning tea in my new outdoor space. I want to relax, during a cool fall evening, outside knitting or reading with a nice glass of wine. I think it will be an enjoyable, comfy spot for my dogs too. The most important thing about my outdoor space is to make sure it screams COZY.

Summer is ending soon. I can feel it. The early mornings are cooler. The evening’s air has a bit of a chill. Are you guys ready for fall?
